Reign of Terror
September 22, 1792
France becomes a democratic nation. January 21, 1793 King Louis XVI is killed to show opposition to the monarchy system. June 24, 1793 Constitution is made and is not the first to be put into place. People like Robespierre rose to power and made many drastic changes. September 5, 1793- Reign of Terror starts It was a campaign where anyone with different plans than Maximillian Robespierre was accused of a crime and put to death. There were many executions, normally by guillotine, in Paris that spread to the more rural areas. October 16, 1793 Marie Antoinette was killed under the same circumstances that her husband, King Louis XVI, was killed. July 27, 1794 Robespierre is overpowered. The Reign of Terror ended up not helping him. he broke multiple alliances and killed many allies. As time continued he could no longer consider his actions a matter of "public safety." He was killed by guillotine. |
